B i o g r a p h y

Born in 1989, Toril grew up in the small Swedish village Riddarhyttan. With a family interested in folkmusic she early started playing the fiddle and tried various other instruments during her childhood. In High School she began learning the organ and soon started to deputise at the local churches.

Toril moved to Stockholm in 2007 for studies at Ersta Sköndal College and then the Royal College of Music. Her organ teacher at both school's was Mikael Wahlin and she received her Bachelor's degree  in Church music in June 2012. 

Alongside her studies Toril performed and held organist posts in various churches, including Skinnskatteberg, Essinge, Gustaf Vasa and the Anglican church in Stockholm.

After that she spent almost 3 years in London, studying interpretation and improvisation at the Royal College of Music whith professor David Graham and Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin. She received her Master's of performance degree in July 2014. Holding the post as Assistant Organist at St Michaels Church, Highgate, from May 2013 until December 2014 and deputising in several other churches, she is well aquainted with the Anglican church music. She has performed in various churches in and around London, including St Paul's Cathedral, St George's Hanover Square, St Stephen's Walbrook, Farm Street Church, Christ's Chapel Dulwich and Brentwood Cathedral and also participated in masterclasses with Eric Lebrun and Peter van Dijk.

 

Back in Stockholm since 2015, Toril is now pursuing a freelance organist career, teaching and directing a children's choir. Recent performance's include the historical Schwan organ from 1781 in Ängsö and the Cathedral of VästerÃ¥s.
